On 21st March 2020, three ace trainers from Genese Cloud Academy gave a webinar on the recently launched AWS Educate Student Ambassador Program. The event had 45 student participants from four provinces in Nepal namely Kathmandu, Butwal, Birgunj and Pokhara.

The event kicked off with Mr Niranjan Udas, Founder, Educate Program Lead and Technology Evangelist explaining AWS Educate as the global initiate of Amazon to accelerate cloud-learning and to prepare students for cloud-enabled jobs of tomorrow.

Then, he introduced the AWS Educate Student Ambassador program, a program that gives AWS Educate student members recognition, access to career development opportunities and other benefits for helping their peers learn about AWS Educate. He then went on to explain the one mandatory criteria that need to fulfil in order to qualify for an ambassador the individual which is that he/she has to be enrolled into the AWS Educate Account as a student with an age of above 18 years at a public or private school, college and university. He then shared that Amazon generally gives preferences to second or third-year bachelor students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics discipline and who are outgoing, have proven leadership ability, have a knowledge and know-how of AWS and are highly motivated and involved on campus and extra-curricular activities.

After sharing the requirement to become an AWS Educate Student Ambassador, he shared the expectation that must be fulfilled by that ambassador and they are:

  • He/she should engage with other students and faculty at the campus to help them learn about AWS and AWS Educate.
  • He/she should attend the virtual kickoff event and semi-annual update calls.
  • He/she should share their opinions and insights to the GCA team via meetings and surveys
  • He/she should also share ideas and events with other student ambassadors in the community.

Niranjan then went on to explain the various benefits of becoming the AWS Student Ambassador namely:

This gives the student ambassador incremental AWS Promotional Credit, a chance to become a part of the quarterly AWS tech talks including Q&A with AWS Service Teams, and opportunities to gain resume-building experience, public speaking, technical writing, community leadership trainingfrom AWS and likewise other necessary mentorship from AWS employees.

  • Exclusive Access

This gives the student ambassador an exclusive AWS Educate Student Ambassador Program swag/gear, opportunities to attend AWS summits, conferences and industry events whenever applicable, discounted registration rates for AWS events wherever applicable, a chance to access member-only information and a private forum access and likewise support to help grow the AWS Educate student community at the ambassador’s school.

In a nutshell, the event was highly productive to all the attending students who showed strong interest in becoming AWS Student Ambassadors of their respective schools/colleges and started their application processes by creating AWS Educate accounts.
